YMCA Camp Carter received “Nellie” as a donation from the Hawks Creek Branch of Wells Fargo. Nellie was the 2015 Branch pony. Nellie was used to celebrate Wells Fargo’s 160+ year commitment to delivering products and services that their customers need.
Nellie’s Story… Every day at 7:00 AM, Nellie and her Wells Fargo driver, Rush Blodget, ordinarily picked up packages to deliver to customers in Bakersfield, California. But in 1898, they picked up a sick soldier returning from war – who turned out to be Blodget’s brother – and rushed to get him help. Sgt. Claude Blodget eventually recovered and the driver never forgot his “working pal” Nellie.
Nellie will now be used to bring comfort to homesick campers at YMCA Camp Carter and will be auctioned off at the Camp Carter Equestrian Center Winter Event on December 3rd, with all of the money going to provide scholarship assistance for campers in need.
