Riding Lessons

The YMCA Camp Carter Equestrian Center is a year round horse facility offering both English and Western riding lessons in our covered arena. Riding lessons include learning the parts of the saddle, parts of the horse, how to lead, how to tie and grooming in addition to learning how to ride.

Our lesson program is a progressive lesson program which each skill building upon the previously learned skills. Our instructors encourage our students to set goals at each lesson and do their best to help each student achieve their goals. All of our instructors teach under the supervision of a Certified Horsemanship Instructor. Many of our instructors learned to ride with us at a young age and have “grown up” in our program.

Our riding lessons-including ground lessons-are one hour in length and are private riding lessons meaning it is one student per instructor per lesson. Our instructors have a flexible schedule offering both day and evening lessons.

YMCA Camp Carter owns its own herd of horses, so our staff are very familiar with all of our horses and every horse has a lesson to teach each rider!

Horseback riding has been shown to improve coordination, attention span, balance, communication and confidence in people and we would love for you to come ride with us!

Please note: Students must be at least 7 years of age to participate in lessons and we also offer lessons for adults!
